Everything is extremely simple - there is a process of tissue death and the growth of new ones. Dead cells peeling off cause some, well, let's say, pain, but in small quantities, comparable to tingling. As the brain reacts to these impulses, an additional blood flow is created, which carries the anesthetic (alkaloid, if I am not mistaken). The pain is dulled, but since the cells in the healing wound are young, the receptors are more sensitive.
