Because of its smell, I think on a subconscious level this smell evokes appetizing feelings, so you can't wait to bite off. Or genetically, when there was a famine in the scoop, your great-grandmother and great-grandfather chewed it. (joke or not?)
It is quite possible that you have picacism - an irresistible desire to eat what you cannot eat. Picacism is an accompanying symptom for anemia. Like cancer.
