Hanging out in the smoking room and in companies drinking alcoholic beverages is part of a teen's socialization. Few people come to the school smoking room, because they really want nicotine. They come there to hang out, slap the eyes of a guy from another class, talk.
As we grow up, we constantly "play adults." Little girls play mother and daughter. You don’t ask, “Why do girls play at their age as mothers and daughters, and then go after giving birth to three children, although they cannot even feed one properly”. They will play in this way as adults, as long as such an example of adult behavior is in front of them. And, of course, they read the attributes of adulthood, not the essence. Because they are still children.
No causal relationship. We tried a cigarette in the company of older guys, because, probably, almost everyone would not refuse. Of these, only a few became smokers. It's the same with alcohol. People don't get drunks from hanging out on a couple of lists. Most of these children grow up and "smarter". And they become drunks for completely different reasons.
Do not rush to look down on smoking and drinking teenagers. Talking about how stupid teenagers are behaving is like talking about how a dumb baby can't talk.
Alcohol and cigarettes are not the worst habits of a person in this life. Streets and streets are different, of course, but I do not see crowds of drunks on those on which I walk, like zombies in Walkers.
Sometimes they just end up in the wrong company, as it was, in fact, with me. In the eighth grade I went to study in the cadet corps and somewhere in the middle of the year I got up as a day in the company. An eleventh grader was on duty. Well, as soon as the company was empty, he rushed to get beer and cigarettes. I didn't become an alcoholic (sort of), but I still smoke a pack a day for 7 years.
