Why do people generally like to dream and imagine? Someone will look here for certain complexes of those restrained by life, but everyone dreams and imagines. This is a property of human nature.
Yes, it happens that a person plays a certain situation in his mind in order to compensate for mental damage in real life. For example, the boss yelled, and the person imagines: here he miraculously received a million dollars, bought a company where he has been hunching without prospects for many years, came to work and fired the director. I dreamed and it became easier.
In most cases, a person dreams of leaving for another better world or changing his role in this. And not necessarily in the direction of "success". One of my acquaintances, in reality a successful person, financially capable of flying every weekend in the United States, dreams of the life of a taiga vagrant. He even dreams of such a life. These dreams will never come true and often a person himself would not want them to come true. A forty-year-old lonely accountant will not become a beautiful young princess in a fantasy kingdom, and an assembly line worker will not go on a pirate raid with Captain Kidd. But dreaming in this way is still useful and profitable. The point is that all of us play imaginary situations and dialogues in our heads. But only some can invent them themselves, while others are passively content with the products of literature, cinema, games, etc. In this sense, people who are unable to come up with such things themselves are in a less advantageous position than the "imaginers". They need objects of the material world to stimulate the perception of the imaginary. And the "imaginary" carry in their head a cinema together with a film studio.
