Read carefully, this is IMPORTANT!

There are several sports that involve a significant load on the knee joint, so it is absolutely impossible to practice them with arthrosis. These include:

  • volleyball;
  • football;
  • ice hockey;
  • tennis;
  • running;
  • basketball.

Many experts are ambiguous about running with arthrosis. Most talk about a significant level of exertion and most of them lean towards giving up running. Some talk about the possibility of running at the initial stage of the disease, while providing adequate therapy to prevent the development of the disease.

At the same time, there are types of sports activities that are included in the treatment of arthrosis. These include walking, skiing, yoga, swimming, cycling or stationary bike. All exercises of a static nature, aimed at improving blood circulation in the knee area, have a positive effect on the effectiveness of treatment.

In case of arthrosis, it is recommended to practice skiing in the traditional skiing technique with a classic move. You can have such a hobby with 1 and 2 degrees of the disease, since at the last stage it is recommended to resort to other types of hobbies. Skating in the skating technique is prohibited, since when the leg is moved to the side, there is a serious load on the joint.

Osteoarthritis imposes a ban on significant activities, but pedaling does not belong to this category. This sport provides a smooth load and translational movements do not harm the cartilage tissue. The work involves a large group of muscles, the thighs and lower leg, which leads to an improvement in blood circulation in the legs. As a result, the nutrition of the cartilaginous tissue of the knee joint improves, and its mobility is restored over time.

With arthrosis, patients are often advised to walk normally. The advantage of this type of activity is availability, simplicity, cost-effectiveness and so you can have a pleasant time. Today there are several types of walking, some of which are perceived as a sport.

With arthrosis, you can practice swimming, with the help of which the patient's well-being significantly improves. When in water, the level of stress on sore joints is significantly reduced. Movement in the water involves all muscle groups and their tone increases. By strengthening the cruciate ligament, quadriceps muscle fibers and the calf area, improvements in the knee joint function are observed and the main symptom of arthrosis in the form of pain disappears.

I strongly recommend that you familiarize yourself with an effective treatment for joints and spine that can be used at home. If interested, here is the link.

In my opinion, swimming or other water sports (for example, water polo) may be safe in this situation, since in these sports the load on the knee joint is minimal.

You should avoid jogging, sports, football, basketball, volleyball, weightlifting - in these sports, the load on the knee joint is maximum.

However, this issue should be discussed with a sports doctor in order to choose not only the sport, but also the pace of physical activity, taking into account the disease (frequency of training, time limits for one training, etc.) - in this situation it is important to understand the degree of damage knee joint and how much its function is reduced.
