Why am I better than Roman slaves? It's the 21st century, but I don't have the money to take advantage of the benefits of civilization. Why do I need space, a heart transplant, if I don't have the money to buy it? What's the point of this if only a select few can take full advantage of this? Those who own everything.

Well, you can't - and don't use it. Only then I did not understand - how did you ask this question? Quill pen on parchment, probably? Heart transplants are ubiquitous for people of all kinds of wealth, not to mention cardiac pacemakers or artificial valves. People of varying degrees of well-being fly to the space mentioned, mostly middle-ranking military, engineers and scientists - almost all of them belong to the middle class.

And you differ from the Roman slaves most likely in that they worked, and you are a bum, so you have no money. Some slaves were richer than their masters by the way.

The question is not about money. If high technologies for a person are gadgets that he cannot afford to buy, then he should not bother with it at all.

Another is when a person realizes that high technologies are bringing into the world. A person may not use gadgets, but he understands that high technologies affect humanity and it.

It is necessary to ask what is the point in high technologies, but what is the benefit to you personally. And the benefit is that with their development, they become cheap and affordable over time. For example computers. In my childhood, there were only poor computers and game consoles like Dandy and Sega, and now almost everyone has a powerful computer. The common population had no microwaves, refrigerators had to be defrosted, and water for tea had to be heated on the stove, etc. And you can use space anyway if you go to a site located on another continent, because the signal goes through a satellite. You can also watch maps made using satellite imagery, for example, Google Maps has such a mode.

And I did not really think about it, but I listed what came to mind quickly.

The conclusion is that the technology first appears and is used by a small handful of people because of the complexity and high cost. Then it improves, becomes cheaper and begins to benefit almost everyone.

This is a very correct remark. Alas, high technology is not for everyone. Science in this respect is rather selective and promotes discrimination and aggravation of social internal contradictions in society on the basis of personal wealth. And not only with regard to the possibility of using high-tech household appliances and electronics, but also in relation to transportation, health care, education, and even in relation to essential goods.
