It can be some kind of parental settings and prescriptions. For example, from childhood, a child is told: "We feed you on credit, on credit. When you become an adult, you will give back!" And on the basis of these words, the child makes a decision - I will not eat or will eat as little as possible. Of course, the cause of the problem takes root on a subconscious level and passes into adulthood.

Or the reason may be the lack of inner support, self-doubt, lack of self-love. At the same time, a person begins to look for spring points of support and love, but in vain. Then the search for reasons begins, what is it in me so that others do not like me? I will improve myself / draw attention to myself with a special way of eating, for example.

In eating disorders, we usually consider three factors — genetic, social, and personal. Nobody knows what the root cause is. No one knows if the disorder was triggered by a specific personality pattern, an eating disorder personality pattern, or whether it was formed and ingrained during the disorder.

If we talk about the features, I would emphasize low self-esteem. Eating disorder is very often a trap: when a person has low self-esteem, and he begins (if we are talking about anorexia) to lose weight, this disease becomes a way to increase it. Such a person loses weight, he succeeds, he sees a smaller figure on the scales, self-esteem rises. Then it is very difficult to get out of this: after all, this is the only area where I can feel successful.

Lack of self-confidence is also connected with this. This, in turn, is associated with social isolation, in which a person is closed, very shy and afraid. Poor social contacts are very common in eating disorders. They become increasingly impoverished during the course of the disease, because it is difficult for a person. It focuses on the topic of food, and almost any communication and hangout involves the need to eat. It can be very difficult. After all, a person has certain rules that he invented for himself and which he adheres to. Therefore, it is easier for him to be alone. Plus, his interests usually also rest on the topic of nutrition. He thinks about it more time. He becomes less interested in what is happening with other people. He basically loses the need to communicate.

I can also highlight perfectionism - if a person takes on something, he must do it for six plus out of five. This makes life very difficult. It's hard when you have several areas of your life, time 24 hours a day, and you have to be in time everywhere and do everything perfectly.

I can also highlight such rigidity of thinking, when it is very difficult for a person to be flexible - in his plans, in what is happening around. He usually has a formed point of view on everything, and it is difficult for him to refuse it. This thinking, it is usually black and white. If everything happened according to the plan that I have in my head, then okay. If suddenly even one percent went wrong, then it's a disaster. The person is either in a state of satisfaction with what is happening, or in a depressed background with black and white thinking. It is also very often important for such people to control and keep everything under control. There are such obsessive-compulsive tendencies: a person has a vase on the table, and he cannot fall asleep until he moves it to where it should be more level. And, of course, this is dysmorphophobia - an obsession with the body and appearance. What is the cause and what is the effect (illness caused body dysmorphophobia or body dysmorphophobia caused illness) may remain a big question.
