January, 2021Sleepwalking is dangerous if, during such an episode, a person commits difficult actions: leaves the house, drives a car, cooks. In these cases, he is able to harm himself and his loved ones.
When you see a person who is in an episode of sleepwalking, you need to make sure that he is safe. No need to scare a person, shout at him, trying to wake him up. If this happens at home and the person is safe, do not try to restrain him - he may react aggressively. If the sleepwalker is not disturbed, he usually goes to bed again.
After the person has lain down and got out of the sleepwalking episode, you can gently wake him up - this will help prevent a new episode that can occur in the same deep sleep cycle.
If the person tries leave the house (this happens infrequently) and you cannot manage to gently direct him to bed, you need to call for help.
In a house where there is an active sleepwalker, it is worth removing fragile and dangerous things and objects that you can trip over. Windows and doors must be closed at night.

The best thing you can do is put the person back in bed and make sure they are safe, because when they get up again they may not notice the laptop cord or glass on the edge of the nightstand. For some reason, it is believed that it is not advisable to wake up sleepwalkers, but if you really need to, you can do it quietly and carefully.
One of my friends, who suffered from bouts of sleepwalking, put a damp cloth or towel near the bed in advance in the evening, and when she once again got up in the middle of the night, stepping on something wet, she immediately woke up.
