Immediately after the deletion, this was not, everything quickly returned to normal. After two months it got worse. When you open your mouth, pain appears at the junction of the upper and lower jaw. The joint does not hurt.

Most likely there is a violation of the temporomandibular joint. Find a competent osteopath or chiropractor. I guess my head hurts too. Possible and where else backfired.

Hello) You need to see an orthopedist - gnathologist. Since this is a problem with the joint, you can, of course, go to the osteopath at the beginning so that he does not relax a lot. But in any case, you need to see an orthopedist to solve the main problem, and not the consequences. In addition to pain when opening, there are most likely headaches, migraines.

The temporomandibular joint is responsible for opening the mouth, it hurts at the point where the upper and lower jaw join. Pain when opening the mouth means that something is interfering with the movement of the head of the temporomandibular joint. The cause may be damage to the joint itself, or to the periarticular tissues, muscles or nerves.

Removing a wisdom tooth is a traumatic operation, especially on the lower jaw, since the roots of the lower molars are usually twisted and deep. To get them, the dentist performs a complex removal, after which the tissue heals more slowly. Often, after the removal of the "eights", the bite changes, the teeth are displaced, or inflammation of the gums, periodontal tissue and even bone tissue develops.

If the temporomandibular joint is overloaded in the first month after extraction or if the operated tissues become cold, joint dysfunction, neuritis and inflammation of the masticatory muscles may occur.

The likelihood of temporomandibular joint dysfunction is high if :

  • You hear “clicks” when you move the lower jaw;
  • You have advanced caries, which could have worsened after the intervention;
  • After the operation, you performed intense physical activity and overloaded the muscles and ligaments of the jaw;
  • Due to your professional activities, you had to talk or sing a lot;
  • You have a problem with the spine or parotid gland that may have aggravated the displacement of the jaw head;
  • You have chilled your facial nerve and it caused a muscle spasm.

See your maxillofacial surgeon to find out why your jaw hurts when you open your mouth and why you can't open it fully. He will examine the joint, take x-rays and ultrasound, and, if necessary, perform additional surgery or prescribe anti-inflammatory treatment. If the tests show nothing, the doctor will refer you to other specialists - a neurologist, physiotherapist or chiropractor.

Judging by the symptoms you described, the cause of the problem may be either dysfunction (that is, malfunction) of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), or TMJ arthritis.

Since a sufficient period of time has passed since the removal of the wisdom tooth, it is unlikely that the occurrence of violations is somehow connected with surgical manipulations (although potentially the appearance and then extraction of a tooth could lead to deformities in the dentition, which affected on the kinematics of the joint).

To understand the situation, you need to consult a maxillofacial surgeon . If you live in Moscow, we recommend that you contact the Center for Dentistry and Maxillofacial Surgery (Vuchetich St., 9a).

To eliminate TMJ dysfunction, measures may be required to restore the correct closing of teeth (bite correction by an orthodontist , selective grinding of teeth, elimination of overbite fillings, competent prosthetics / reprosthetics). Painful sensations are eliminated with the help of drug therapy and / or physiotherapy.

Anti-inflammatory drugs and physical therapy are used to treat TMJ arthritis.
