Here's a review of the literature on randomized, placebo-controlled trials on the effects of nootropics in healthy adults.

Fond, G., et al. "Neuroenhancement in healthy adults, part I: pharmaceutical cognitive enhancement: a systematic review." Journal of Clinical Research & Bioethics 6.2 (2015): 1.

Neuroenhancement is a technical term for improving cognitive function in a healthy person.

Clearly that there is not a lot of data, and not all substances work, but to say that there is no effect, this is all placebo, is a lie. It is clear that nootropics are used for people with cognitive impairments, and their effect in a healthy person will be clearly less pronounced, if at all. However, do not forget that the concept of "healthy person" and "average patient" is a fiction, a medical assumption. Are you sure that your body is completely healthy, that your brain is working like a clock, or you are eating poorly, not getting enough sleep, you are often stressed, etc. etc. Maybe, after all, you are not as healthy a person as the rest? Maybe there is something to improve? Many nootropics, at least, prolong the wakefulness period and drive away sleep, thereby increasing efficiency.

I would not recommend drinking classical nootropics directly for various reasons, incl. and unpleasant side effects like headaches or allergies. It's okay, but it can clearly interfere with mental activity. Besides, it is a question of money, efficiency, etc.

Eat well, practice good sleep hygiene, alternate mental and physical stress, etc. Many people should not underestimate the strength of the regime. And from pharmacy preparations, just drink some "light" vitamin and mineral complexes, like Complivit. Vitamins, in essence, are also partly nootropics. Cheap and cheerful.

Not worth it. Drugs from the nootropic group have no proven effectiveness. Anyone who says that they have experienced the positive effect of a nootropic on themselves - this effect does not exceed a placebo. Google: Evidence-Based Medicine. + similar questions have already been asked.
