Experiments with LSD are allowed to a narrow circle of scientists, you can find out about this in a good 2008 BBC film. There you can also find out that LSD is banned not because it is not fully understood, but mainly because of the appearance of this psychedelic on the streets among hippies, who very quickly denigrated it by misuse.
