This myth dates back to Soviet times. In the methodological recommendations of the USSR Ministry of Health from 1976, high myopia (more than 6.0 diopters) was an indication for delivery by cesarean section. This was explained by the fact that the retina of a short-sighted woman is stretched and strongly thinned at the periphery, which can lead to its detachment during the laboring period of labor and, as a consequence, a decrease in vision.
However, at the moment it has been proven that neither the pregnancy itself nor Childbirth is not an additional risk factor for retinal detachment. Therefore, a pregnant woman, even with a high degree of myopia, can safely give birth on her own, without fear for her eyesight.
To make sure that there is no risk of developing retinal detachment, every pregnant woman, regardless of the presence of myopia, it is advisable to undergo an examination by an ophthalmologist (this is regulated by order 572n ). Ideally, this should include a wide-pupil examination of the fundus. So the doctor will be able to assess the state of the retina, even at its very periphery. If dystrophic changes are found that threaten the development of retinal rupture or detachment, the woman will be offered preventive laser coagulation of the retina, after which she will be able to give birth on her own.

As far as the ophthalmologist explained to me, the matter is in retinal detachment. Due to tension and internal pressure, or a sharp drop in pressure, it is fraught with flaking, resulting in blindness. Personally, the doctor warned me: I will need to undergo an operation to 'attach' the retina in order to avoid negative consequences. Forewarned is forearmed)

This opinion is quite common. Some doctors do not even allow expectant mothers with a high level of myopia / hyperopia to give birth on their own, they recommend only cesarean. Fears are associated with the fact that during labor attempts, strong internal pressure is exerted on the vitreous body, intraocular fluid, and the lens. And here everything depends on the organism. My mother, for example, after natural childbirth, her vision improved to almost one, and it began to fall with age after 15 years. So myopia in this case is rather a thing that requires attention, and not a contraindication. And the consultation with an ophthalmologist before childbirth is definitely worth going through.

I do not know for sure, but I can say that some particularly conservative doctors do not recommend surgery to restore vision if the girl is young and plans to become a mother, since during childbirth, vision may drop to the level before the operation.

There is still some kind of connection, so there is most likely a chance that your eyesight will fall

In the glasses it is unlikely to be allowed into the maternity ward. The main thing is strong during the time when the small hollow climbs free, not to stick out. I don’t presume to approve, but I suspect that if the female blinks, then all the bamboos will be there.
