As soon as I crossed the US-Mexico border, they immediately began to offer me all kinds of help. In the states for six months, this has never happened. There are open and friendly people in Mexico. Yes, there are probably some problems, because in the same Mexico City there are huge fences with tension. For the three months that I spent here, there was nothing criminal. It seems to me that this stereotype has developed due to the fact that when a murder happens or something like that, the media really inflate this case. People get the impression that it’s everywhere in Mexico, even though it’s not at all.
In the north of Mexico there is the city of Ciudad Juarez, it borders on El Paso, which in turn is located in the United States. If you google "Ciudad Juarez", then you will find a bunch of photographs with severed heads and the like. This is a photo of the period of the war of drug cartels, now, according to my observations, there is no such thing. We were in this city, about to hop on a train and travel to the south of the country. Several hours passed, the trains flew by at great speed, we could not jump in any way. We sat by the railroad in a typical ghetto. Realizing that there were few chances to leave that day, we pitched our tent and went to bed. At 4 o'clock in the morning an unknown Mexican came to us, who brought us all kinds of food. This says a lot about the mentality.
In Mexico, even policemen help tourists. I exceeded the speed limit several times, parked in the historic center of the city - even fines were avoided. Here you can simply give the police money, much less than the fine itself, and they will turn a blind eye to violations.
I think that most robberies are committed in resort areas like Cancun, and in non-tourist places this is not the case.
