Bulimia is one of the types of addictive behavior that began to form from birth. Usually, the addiction has already been formed by the age of 4 (this applies to any addictions). For the manifestation of dependence (bilimia in particular), an impulse, increased uncertainty, anxiety is needed. And then the body triggers the addiction mechanism to relieve anxiety (belimia, anorexia, overeating, alcoholism, drug addiction, study addiction, risk taking, etc.).

Accordingly, parents try to remove the symptoms of addiction by strengthening control. But one addiction then turns into another addiction, so control (and self-control) over behavior does not work in the fight against addiction. Accordingly, diets are also a treatment for leprosy with brilliant green (effect for a couple of days). Because it doesn't change the reason in any way. The reason is childhood traumas, due to which certain behavioral stereotypes were formed. Addictive behavior depends on behavioral patterns, which in turn depend on childhood trauma. A bulimic patient cannot live with his tension, and bouts of bulimia temporarily relieve this tension. Therefore, bulimia saves the client from more intense stress, which is why the client's body cannot refuse it. Neither willpower nor diet can in any way help to recover, in principle. Here, work is needed to change the client's values.

The work with this disease is quite jewelry and only a psychologist or psychotherapist who has experience in treating bulimia can help.

First, understand that treatment without a doctor is impossible, take it for granted and imbued with this idea entirely.

Not possible, because no one except doctors has the proper qualifications to determine the tactics of action in your specific case. Because in order to understand how to act with each specific patient, you must first study for a long time, then gain practical experience, then examine the individual comprehensively and only when you have a wealth of knowledge behind you and you have a history of the disease before your eyes, you can give advice.

Well, the second stage - go look for a psychotherapist.

Bulimia is a very specific definition of obsessive-compulsive disorder, which includes three mandatory points: bouts of insatiable gluttony, accompanied by the absorption of huge amounts of food, the inability to control this and self-flagellation about this. If any of this is not there, then you do not have bulimia or just an erased form. You will not be cured without doctors, you will only make yourself worse.

In fact, it is possible both independently and with a therapist. Depends on the severity, of course.

The main thing in such a disorder is to find a way to cope with the impulses to both "gorge yourself" and the subsequent ones, like "vomit". Of course, motivation is important - you can start with this, make a list of the benefits-highs and harm-losses from such a situation. It is also important to work with the image of oneself (see above the girl's answer, about "I am not a rag" and further), and with control of attention - perhaps the most important thing is to distract from food so that it does not occupy a lot of thoughts.

But these are general suggestions, of course, in individual work more and more precise.

I had bulimia for about three years. So, I want to write that this can be dealt with without anyone's help. It's enough just to force yourself to eat right, to convince yourself that you are not a rag and to realize what the consequences will be if you continue. Look at your throat. Horrified? Every time you feel the urge to get drunk, remember your throat. I have a very weak sense of will, but nevertheless I did it, despite the fact that I provoked vomiting almost daily.

An eating disorder like bulimia, without the help of at least a nutritionist, is unlikely to respond to treatment. Start by finding a psychotherapist who specializes in eating disorders and who may also help you with a dietitian or other health care professional (they usually know specialists) to help the three of you (including you) deal with your problem.
