There are specific criteria for recognizing borderline personality disorder. Some of them are:

  • Such people have difficulty in describing their own personality
  • They have global and minimistic descriptions of others
  • For them, life is a struggle
  • They are often prone to hostile ways to defend themselves
  • Although reality is understood well enough
  • May admit that their weirdness is disturbing others
  • But at the same time they cannot evaluate themselves from the outside
  • When they feel close to another person, they panic out of fear of absorption and total control
  • Feeling detached and traumatized

The main focus of helping people with this disorder is to "cultivate" in them an "inner adult".

That is, people with BPD are fixed on the child's model of world perception. Their reactions are often ambivalent:

  • feeling helpless and lonely

  • aggression and rejection for outside help

So the basic steps to help are:

  • Develop the ability to love others
  • Build safe boundaries (discuss and set with a psychologist)
  • Talking about your polar states with a specialist, linking positive and negative emotions together
  • Interpreting primitive defenses, developing an "adult" view of such reactions
  • Discourage regression and maintain autonomy (encouraging aggressive action and suppressing helplessness)
  • Interpretations not during passion, but after cooling

Of course, it is important to do all these steps with a competent specialist, because healing comes from correct interaction with an adequate person , which is a psychologist.
