This sensation normally occurs due to partial compression of the nerve and goes away on its own. In anatomy, there is the concept of "the place of typical compression of the nerve" - this is the area where the nerve is most susceptible to damage / compression by the surrounding tissues, especially when taking a certain position. Therefore, intermittent slight numbness in the arms or legs that disappears after a change in posture is normal.

However, such constant compression of the nerve, for example in persons whose work is associated with prolonged adoption of a non-physiological posture, can lead to the so-called tunnel syndromes (carpal tunnel syndrome, cubital canal, etc.).

With an unnatural position of body parts, a violation of innervation and trophism occurs. That is, nerves and blood vessels are pinched. The brain realizes that it has lost contact with this part and, as it were, is deprived of it until the time of restoration of the normal position. At the same time, such a long position can lead to complete atrophy, that is, this is already amputation.
