Meditation can be compared to lucid dreams. Everyone has had a lucid dream at least once in their lives. It is the same with meditation. It cannot be a placebo - because it is not a medicine, but a state of mind. All actions that a meditating person does are aimed at achieving this state. Actions and techniques can be infinitely different: from sitting in a lotus and observing your mind, to a simple walk and even, as already mentioned, washing dishes.
The final goal of all these techniques is to achieve harmony in emotions and thoughts and to be aware of every moment of your life and then everything that you do becomes meditation.
whoever tried to meditate for at least 5 minutes knows what kind of work it is, including) because it is not entirely correct to talk about the placebo effect 40 minutes of meditation a day will definitely change your emotional life for the better and strengthen your health.
As a Buddhist, I can safely say that I know everything about meditation. But the question is not about the essence, but the impact. So I will say it briefly.
Meditation has many benefits:
2) Improve your mood
3) More energy than caffeine
4) Concentration, clearing thoughts of unnecessary porridge
5) Finding the right answer, in search of which you wandered for a long time
6) Strength of mind
7) Increasing intellectual abilities
In general, I advise you to start meditating, just do it right)
Well, easy meditation includes drawing, cooking, washing dishes, etc., in general, those things in which the brain works, but we think with the soul)
The main purpose of meditation is to dissociate thoughts and emotions. Many people constantly chew the same thing without any benefit for themselves and their cause (rumination is called), our automatic thoughts affect our emotions, we experience anxiety when it is completely meaningless, fear when there is no real danger, a sense of our own inferiority, guilt when not guilty; chaos of thoughts keeps us awake. In short, there is so much rubbish in our heads! There are many different types of meditation, but I am now talking about contemplative. In this case, while meditating, we observe our thoughts, and they float by like clouds, or like mud on water - there are a lot of images. After some time, the realization comes that all these are just thoughts. And they stop influencing reactions, provoking other negative thoughts and emotions.
If the placebo effect still works, then it will simply enhance the positive effect of meditation.
There are many meditations. There are so-called guided meditations - you listen to a voice on a disc and visualize what is being said. It can be a wonderful place in nature, different images, colors. Some meditations ask you to observe different parts of the body.
Meditation also works on muscle relaxation. Straining of the face, neck, spine is often the result of unnecessary thoughts and emotions. When this happens all the time, chronic constrictions occur. Headaches, for example, can be due to tight neck muscles.
On my own, I noticed that meditation helped me to partially cope with the imbalance of the left and right sides of the body. Many have a slightly twisted spine, shoulder blades at different levels, the head is held indirectly - this affects the state of health and the work of organs.
In addition, by relaxing and falling into a trance, self-hypnosis begins to work. The deeper the trance, the more effective self-hypnosis. It can relate to the emotional component (I am always calm) and physical health (my stomach is healthy). Just don't use auto-suggestion to treat serious infections and cancer!
There are many pitfalls in meditation practice. Personally, I got severe nausea at the very beginning. I had to stop, then I learned to switch attention. Bodily reactions can be the most unpredictable. Therefore, it is better to read the literature or start practice with a specialist.
It happens that bright pictures appear in front of your eyes and flicker like in a kaleidoscope. Some have nightmarish pictures, here you also need to know what to do with it. Such visions are called “dumping”: tensions and fears that have lodged in the deep subconscious go away. During practice, an anxiety attack can occur, palpitations appear, limbs twitch, muscles convulsively contract. Experts sometimes say that meditation can be hell. You need to approach this very carefully.
Therefore, different types of it suit different people. Classical sitting meditation in the lotus position may be contraindicated for someone. And, chMost importantly, do not overdo it with meditation. A familiar Indian, a young guy, started by sitting one at a time! minute, only three years later he increased the duration to an hour. By the way, one of the initial functions of yoga is to strengthen the muscles in order to meditate as long as possible.
And so and so. Meditation also helps because it engages the placebo effect. Placebo, if you look closely, is the ability of the brain to influence the state using its own internal resources; those. and hypnosis, and meditation, and other trance techniques allow it to be used in a targeted manner.
There are also studies where meditation actually - by physiological indicators - increased the pain threshold, that is, your own brain can act as an "analgesic ".
A lot of neuroscience studies have been done on this topic. Yes, it is effective. But with the latest neuroscientific research, I had a cognitive dissonance.
According to the results of the study, as a result of a long period of meditation, the brain changes, namely, the part of the brain responsible for emotions - the amygdala (amygdala) - decreases. It is believed that it is best to make informed decisions, so emotions often get in our way.
And the dissonance is due to the fact that people with psychopathic tendencies have one feature, they have a small amygdala. But until there was research or criminals meditated.
