This question is fundamentally wrong, because it has long been known that HIV has, of course, been repeatedly observed under a microscope. True, a microscope is needed not optical, but electronic. The fact is that in an optical microscope, in principle, it is possible to see only those objects that are larger in size than the wavelength of the photon illuminating these objects. The smallest wavelength of visible light, about 380 - 440 nanometers, is violet. And the size of the HIV virus is somewhere in the range from 100 to 180 nanometers, that is, several times smaller - and in the world of viruses it is considered quite large. For example, the influenza virus, the existence of which no one seems to doubt, is even smaller: 80 - 120 nm. And he, too, was only seen through an electron microscope.

Here is a good, although far from complete, selection of photographs of HIV taken with electron microscopes: shvarz.livejournal.com
