Let's start with the fact that there are already three directions in the field of nootropics research:

A) treatment (weakening of negative symptoms) of specific diseases,

B) prevention of specific diseases,

C) improving the cognitive functions of conventionally healthy people.

With the first one, everything seems to be more or less unambiguous. Placebo-controlled, double-blind, randomized trials have been conducted and the beneficial effect of ginkgo has been confirmed for dementia.

With regard to conditionally healthy people, everything is complicated here. The results are inconsistent. Someone says that there is no effect, someone - that there is. I think this is the reason - sales of nootropics for healthy people are not falling, but growing, and why, as they say, prove their benefits, spending millions of dollars on complex research, if the product is already selling well and has a very high safety in terms of side effects effects. Even if it is ineffective, it is not particularly harmful, and money is dripping. Treatment of diseases is another matter. There is a strict account of the effectiveness and side effects. Nootropics for the Healthy are not a medical problem. Medicine is generally not interested in healthy people, for which, by the way, modern scientists criticize it.
