Foolproof Scones Recipe: How To Make Perfect Scones Every Time

Ingredients

  • 225g Self Raising flour

  • baking powder

  • 40g butter or margarine / buttermilk / natural yoghurt 

  • eggs

  • 1 tsp of bicarbonate of soda

  • 1 1/2 tbsp Golden Caster Suger or Coconut Suger

  • 110ml Milk / Dairy free soya milk

Directions

  • Gather ingredients and Pre-heat the oven to 220°C, gas mark 7
  • Start by by rubbing the butter into the sieved flour quickly, using your fingertips, then stir in the sugar and pinch of salt.
  • Add the milk gradually. Mix ingredients together in order to create a soft dough texture.
  • Place the dough on a floured pastry board. Flour your hands gently and knead the mixture to a soft dough, and with a rolling pin (also floured) lightly roll it out to a thickness of about 3cm. (This thickness is essential. The reason scones usually don’t rise enough is because they are rolled out too thin.)
  • cut out perfect shapes and sizes for your scones using a cookie / pastry dough cutter
  • bake near the top of the oven for 12–15 minutes. Bake them until they are golden brown and delicious!
  • To finish off your masterpiece add some glaze or toppings for added flavor then serve warm with a cup of tea – perfection!

Notes

  • With any leftover scones make sure that you store them properly in an airtight container so that they stay fresh for longer periods of time. If necessary you can easily reheat cold scones without losing their texture using either an oven or microwave method – just follow the instructions on how best to do this carefully!
  • Lastly if something goes wrong during preparation don’t panic; just take note of any issues encountered so that next time around it’s easier not to repeat the same mistake again!
